Frequently asked questions Hide FAQs
How do I check whether J22-compatible protectors fit my motorcycle gear?
Before choosing from the Compatible Protectors J22 collection, check your garment’s product information and the protector’s compatibility guidance. Confirm the intended protection zone, insert size, pocket shape, and any attachment requirements. Motorcycle armor inserts are not universal.
If compatibility is not clearly stated, ask Alpinestars to confirm the pairing using your garment’s name and reference. The collection name alone does not establish compatibility with every jacket or suit.
How should a replacement motorcycle armor insert fit?
A compatible protector should sit fully inside its designated pocket without folding, bunching, or stretching the garment. Choose the insert size recommended for your garment rather than assuming that armor and clothing use the same sizing system.
Check the fit in your riding position with the garment fastened. The protector should remain aligned with the intended impact area without excessive movement or restricted mobility. Do not trim or modify an insert to make it fit.
What CE standards and protection levels should I look for in motorcycle armor?
Check each protector’s label and product information for its certification. EN 1621-1 covers limb and joint protectors, EN 1621-2 covers back protectors, and EN 1621-3 covers chest protectors. A compatibility reference such as J22 does not indicate the CE standard or protection level.
Within the same standard, Level 2 permits less transmitted force in impact testing than Level 1. Choose the protection level alongside approved garment compatibility, coverage, and fit; a higher rating does not make an incorrectly fitting insert suitable.
Should I remove motorcycle protectors before washing my riding gear?
Remove removable armor before washing your garment, following both the garment’s care label and the protector’s instructions. Do not assume that an insert can be machine washed simply because the garment can.
Clean protectors only as directed by the manufacturer and allow them to dry away from direct heat before reinstalling. Inspect them for cracks, tears, or permanent deformation, and follow the manufacturer’s inspection and replacement guidance after an impact, even if no damage is visible.
