FAQs
Items in this collection are CE-certified impact protectors selected to fit Alpinestars garments that use the J15 armor pocket specification. This typically covers back, chest, shoulder, and elbow inserts shaped to sit flat inside the designated pockets of J15-coded garments.
If your label or product page indicates J15 compatibility, choose from this collection to ensure correct pocket geometry. For broader browsing of inserts by type, see our impact protectors collections.
Motorcycle protectors are independently tested to EN 1621 standards: EN 1621-1 for limb armor (shoulder, elbow, hip, knee), EN 1621-2 for back protectors, and EN 1621-3 for chest protectors. Labels on the protector indicate the standard and level.
| CE Level | Typical Use | Impact Transmission |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Everyday/urban where maximum flexibility and airflow are prioritized. | Higher allowed force transmission vs. Level 2. |
| Level 2 | Touring, sport/track, or riders seeking higher impact attenuation. | Lower allowed force transmission (stricter threshold). |
Match the insert size to your garment size and the pocket type (back, chest, shoulder, elbow). The correct insert should seat fully in the pocket without folding, gaps, or pressure points; for back inserts, coverage should extend from upper back toward the tailbone without interfering with mobility.
When between sizes, prioritize a secure, flat fit inside the pocket over maximum length. Refer to the size chart on each protector’s product page and your garment’s care/fit label for final confirmation.
Airbag systems and passive inserts serve different purposes. Many Tech‑Air® vests include an integrated back protector and require specific garment clearance. If you plan to use Tech‑Air®, follow the system’s manual and your garment’s guidance—some setups instruct removing the jacket’s separate back insert to avoid stacking components.
To confirm your garment’s pairing, use the Tech‑Air® compatibility checker and then select any additional chest/limb armor as needed from our impact protectors.
Yes. Always follow the garment’s care label and user manual. Remove all armor and electronic components before cleaning. For most textiles, use a gentle, cold wash only if permitted, then air dry away from heat. Leather should be spot-cleaned and conditioned; do not machine wash or tumble dry leather.
Wipe protectors with a damp cloth and let them dry flat before reinserting. Proper care maintains material performance and helps the protectors seat correctly after cleaning.
